What kinds of language tests would be given to a 3 year old child who is mostly nonverbal?

  1. I use teh BDI-

    it tests for receptive and expressive language

    receptive is what the child understands

    expressive is what the child says

    if teh child is non verbal-then the test ends and thc child is given a score based on what he is able to do

    ie

    12 months level = 2 words

    17 month level= 10-50 words


  2. It depends. If the child is nonverbal, but seems to understand a great deal of what is said to him/her, a portion the PLS-4 may be administered to assess his receptive language. Also, the PPVT (Peabody Picture Vocabulary test) to assess understanding of words, and maybe also the REEL-3 (Receptive Expressive Emergent Language) assesses a child's language abilities through parent/caregiver interview. These are just a few possibilites....
