Laptop noise interference

Question

My Advent 7203 has some noise interference- there is a static sound which is there when I'm not playing anything, not using the speakers at all. Even when I mute the sound or disable the speakers the static sound is still there. Also, there is a red light emitting from the headphones port, and I have no idea why. Could anyone help me please? It would be greatly appreciated.Rachael
