I have bought new laptop on last month. Two day’s ago I had given my laptop to service center for formatting, where I had purchase. After laptop formatting my laptop processor speed value showing different values, ie actual is 1.90 GHz but showing 798Mz, 1.60 GHz&1.90 GHz. Any one can explain why this problem is coming? How can solve this issue? Also I have doupt on that service centre guy, ie they might have been chanced any thing on that??????

Configuration: Compaq-AMD Athlon Tk57, 1.90 GHz, 2GB ram

Thanks,

  1. It might be because the processor is dropping down to a lower speed under low usage to reduce power usage and heat generation (pretty much all modern processors can do it) and then increasing to full speed when you actually use it.

Check your power management settings (they might have enabled it, if they have it's probably best to leave it set to slow it down when not used (and on battery have it run at minimum speed all the time)).

  2. can be a software issue, can be alot of different issues, the best thing is to update your bios, and if its still wrong then take it back and ask them to sort it out. Is it still under warranty? If it is then you can always calim hardware fault and get a replacement laptop.

  3. This isn't hardware failure, this is someone that's been playing with your BIOS settings.

Someone has underclocked one of your cpu's. You can fix this in the BIOS.
