  1. You ask a very complicated question and it really depends on your location. If you are in the UK then you would need to take the one year conversion course. Then apply for entrance into the LPC (solicitor) or BVC (barrister) program. Once you graduate the LPC you will need to get a training contract where you train typically for two years before you qualify to practice law but you will not be considered a part of the bar. However if you go the BVC route you will have to join one of the four Inns before starting your BVC course and then do a one year pupillage after graduating before you can apply to the Bar. The competition is fierce for pupillage and entrance to a BVC program does not guarantee a pupillage.

Now if you are in the US and go to a law school where the degree is a JD and once you graduate you may be eligible to take the Bar exam provided you meet the qualifications. Once you take the Bar exam and pass you will be admitted to the Bar in your State.

  2. If you go to law school, you are eligible to practice law. However, you must first pass the bar exam. Then you are certified to practice law.
