I cut my lawn yesterday for the first time this summer. After i cut it down the grass looked yellow in places.

If i water it regularly will it pick its colour back up again?

Also i have a few weeds growing on the grass

What is the best way to treat these. I have some round up what i use on my drive but if i use them on the weeds on my lawn will it kill the grass around them.

Also i have another questoin regarding a patch of topsoiled area which have weeds growing out of. If i use weed killer on them will it contiminate the soil so grass wont grow?

  1. theres these seed things that make it grow.

  2. u r cutting the grass to short u need to cutt it about 4inch long then rake all the dead grass up buy some evergreen put some of that down we had same problem and thats what we did and we have nice bright green grass never let the grass get to long nether the best way to get rid of weed is to digg them out all the root takes time but when u use weed killed they just come back again and again if they r small use an old kitchen knife to cut them out the grass hope this helps u just remember gardens take years to look there best !!!!!!

  3. the yellowing could simply be the dryness of the ground, a few spells of rain will cure this. you dont say whether you have a dog or not if you do it could be the dog (dog urine causes the grass to scorch).

the only real cure for this is to soak the area directly after the dog has been there with soapy water.

the area could do with raking with a grass rake to fetch all the dead grass off then spread a small amount of seed and soil; then water well and the lawn will be as good as new in about 6 weeks.

again you dont say how many weeds there are if they are just isolated ones get a trowel and dig down the side of the weed trying to get all the root out once done just fill back the soil and press the turf down with a bit of seed just to fill in and water well.

if you have a lot of weed look for one of the many weed and feed products or there is a stick weedkiller which you just apply to the heart of the weed touching nothing else and the poison is sucked straight to the heart of the weed

i always like to think the mass weedkiller like roundup is to be used as a last resort

    good luck

  4. The grass will green up on its own.

Do NOT use Roundup on your lawn, use a specific lawn weedkiller like Verdone. Alternatively use a feed and weed product like Evergreen Complete and that will solve both problems.

Roundup will be fine on your topsoiled area as once it has dried it becomes inactive and so there will not be any weedkiller on the area!

  5. If you water your yellow grass it should go green again you left it a bit too late for the first cut.

Any large weeds you should dig out if they leave a hole fill it with a little compost and a sprinkling of grass seed.

Do not use roundup on the lawn. I use feed and weed and mine comes up a treat.

Dig the weeds out of your soil area by hand or use a systemic spray just on the leaves then they wil die back. It should not harm anything else if you are careful with the spraying.

  6. broadcast epsom salt on your lawn with a fertilizer spreader wether it be a hand held or a wheeled type and then water it in..grass loves it ..It will green it right up as well as kill some lawn damaging insects..
