Is it legal to keep a pygmy marmoset in the UK? I used to know of a woman who had 2 monkeys near where I live, so I assume it's not illegal to keep monkeys? It's out of curiosity, I'm not planning of ordering one in!

  1. I believe it is illegal to keep most wild animals not native to the uk without a licence.

How you go about getting a licence I do not know

  2. No it is not illegal providing they have cage they can go in to sleep.

  3. Apparently you don't need a licence to keep either a common marmoset or a pygmy marmoset, but for any other type within that species you do need one.

A relative of mine kept a monkey years ago. It had all the wilfulness of a small toddler, but it was far more agile and able to get up to all sorts of tricks. I think it didn't take her long to get rid of it!
