  1. no way! long fingers are good.  If you ever get up to more advanced music ( i hope you do! ) you'll be SO grateful you have longer fingers

i have shorter/smaller hands, and it hurts like crazy when i try to stretch.

just remember to cut your nails, and when beginning, its easier to buy a shoulder rest so your neck doesnt get cramped

tip- learn to hold your violin up with only your shoulder. this frees your left arm to do things more freely/easily.

    and relax.

overall, learning the violin is a difficult process. But i think its so definitely worth it now, looking back (i've been playing the violin since 3rd/4th grade) i love it so much.

    i hope this helps you!

  2. I'd not too late at all.

Many start later in life.  One orchestra I play in has a violinist that started when she was 45.  With the right amounts of effort and perseverance, you can grow to be a great violinist.

As for your fingers, no.  Actually, one common characteristic of violinists are long, thin fingers.

    Good luck =)
