  1. Most studios have a beginning jazz class.  A lot of the same terms are used in both jazz & ballet, so without any experience, you should start in a beginning class.  There is no reason you'd need any previous experience.  Our studio requires ballet in addition to jazz once you get to a high level of jazz since ballet really helps with your lines and feet become stronger and more pointed when working on ballet.

You should look for a studio with a beginning class.  Summer is a perfect time to start.  Enjoy your class!

  2. No, you don't need ballet but some places do require it. But no if you go along to class and try your best then there is nothing from stopping you. Like learning anything new, it will be hard at first but you will get use to it. I say go for it! xx

  3. mabe take som bigginer classes. and mabe a ballet class or 2.

  4. Actually from what I've learned, ballet is more intense in certain areas than jazz. (I take jazz, but I've only taken it at one studio, so maybe this is not completely the case with all jazz classes.) So, you really don't need to have prior ballet experience at all, in my opinion. Depending on what level of jazz it is it might help if you had some previous JAZZ experience. I started jazz at a young age, have never taken ballet a day in my life, and it's really fun as a dance style all its own! Mostly I think the difference from ballet is that jazz is mostly about attitude, and it isn't always a triple-turn, point shoe dance style or anything. Jazz is still its own style of dance, and doesn't depend on other types (such as ballet). It is such a fun dance to take, so I think that if you want to take a class in the summer, go for it!!!!! ^-^ Hope this helps!
