Question:

Left Turn into a Parking Lot?

I usually make a left turn into a parking lot on weekdays when I go to work. The thing is, I was wondering if it's legal to stop before the intersection and wait to make the turn (CA). The distance from my car to the crosswalk is about two car lengths. I've had a car show up behind me a few times before, but they've always gone around. This time a car showed up and just waited behind me with their left signal on. The right lane was clear with no traffic, but they didn't go around. When the light turned yellow, the person behind me blew their horn as if they expected me to move up and make a left on to the cross street. Anyway, I turned into the lot and parked. So, is this legal or illegal?

  2. legal...you're good...

  3. Yes, that's how it's done.   The guy behind you wasn't paying attention, and thought you were waiting to turn at the traffic light, and queued up behind you and didn't understand why you didn't go on the yellow.  His problem not yours.  He can honk impatiently all he likes, don't move your car til it's safe.

The only thing is, you know what a double yellow line looks like right?  Two parallel, solid yellow lines usually found in the middle of 2 lane roads?    Sometimes near intersections, there will be 2 sets of double yellow lines.  You are not allowed to cross 2 sets of double yellows.   In that case you'd need to go to the intersection and make a U-turn (if legal) and come back to the parking lot.
