Legal Question for lawyers about lawyers?

My Father died, had no bills,house and personal belongs is all, all siblings agree on everything in writing. Estate has been in probate for over 2 yrs now. Is this to long? And if so is this lawyer trying to milk it for more money? Whats my recourse? ps. this is in Jefferson County MO>

  1. The fact that the estate is still in probate isn't necessarily too long.  The case will be complete when everything is done, and the Court is satisfied.  People, in general, think about estates in concern to the amount of money that a person had - this isn't necessarily true.  The case will be closed when everything is done - this also includes the paying of debts, filling out tax returns, etc.  It is possible for an estate to be open for YEARS.

    #1  Try call the attorney in charge of the Estate.  They should be able to give you some general answers.  

    Try talking to the Executor/Administrator of the Estate.  They should be able to give you some answers that are more specific.

    If you still are unsatisified:  Go to your phone book.  Call the bar association where the decedant lived.  Ask for the "Attorney Refferal Service".  Ask for the names of attorneys that handle estate (probate) matters.
