I have an interesting work related situation. I am waiting for a response from a perspective employer. If I get the job I will have to start this coming monday (5/19) and resign my current position with another employer. As soon as I find out I need to give my letter of resignation. Regardless of the courtesy period I need to leave on the 19th. I am one of the most complimented employees at this company. How do I word this letter on such short notice?

  1. i would just explain it to your boss verbally and then indicate on your resignation that "I regretfully withdraw my 2 week notice and must leave my position on May 19th"

  2. Usally Microsoft Online has a bunch of these that you can download and edit.

  3. Here it is, just put down my papers yesterday and I used this format which I picked from one of my friends....Probably this will help.

    Dear ----------(Preferably HR),

Kindly accept my resignation from the designation of ______. I request you to relieve me from the organization.

Please consider _______ as my first day of ______ days notice period.

It has indeed been a pleasure working in ________ and I sincerely express my gratitude and thank the management and my colleagues for the excellent support and co-operation extended during the period of my service here.

Please accept this as my resignation and I would be serving _______ days notice period from _________.

  4. Dear [insert boss' name]

I have the opportunity to better benefits and pay from another employer.  Please accept this letter as my resignation effective as of May 19th, 2008.

I wish to thank you for the opportunity to work for you and for the the opportunities you've given me.

I also wish to apologize for my short notice.  Circumstances from the other company prevent me from being able to give the usual two-week notice.

    Sincerely,

    [your name]

  5. Why bother?  If you are not going to give at least 2 weeks notice (it is often a REQUIREMENT), you'll never be able to use them as a reference for your next job.
