Letting go of a horse?

I've only been riding for a year, and I'm moving on to my second horse. My family can't afford to buy a new horse without selling the one I have now. I love my horse that I have now! But I need a Arabian for show purposes. It's going to be hard to let go of the horse I have now. What can I do to feel better?

put your old horse out for an inbarn full lease!

Spend more time with the new one, make sure the old one goes to a great home. Then only time can heal sadness.

Why do you NEED an Arabian? I am sorry but that sounds kinda stupid. You are abandoning your old horse. Keep him and don't get a new one.

I was in the same situation.

I just thought about how good of a home he would be in and how other people are going to have such a great horse. and just spend lots of time with the new horse.

I cried before the people came to pick up my horse. But, we were trading (NOT an even trade), so the new horse was already there. I just stayed inside until my hrose was trailored so i wouldnt have to watch him walk away.

aw maybe you can sell to a local lesson barn and still visit and take lessons on your old horse?

mabye sell to someone who will allow you to still keep in touch and send you pictures?

But even though you will be sad when your old horse is gone you will be glad to have a new one!

i would defineatly find a buyer that you know and can keep contact with. if the horse is a perfect first-horse type horse, sell to someone you once took lessons with or something.. or their little sibling! if you know any friends... basically an open/friendly sale with someone you can keep communication with. Its the best you can hope for!
