Question:

Life in Medical School & Romantic Relationships?

Any MDs out there, May I PLEASE ask you:

Life in Medical school is one of the factors I consider if being an MD is right for me, as a career choice:

**

I understand that life in Medical School is extremely demanding on the student and that it requires the up most dedication, focus & concentration.

And for this reason, as I understand it, romantic relationships do not survive when one (or both) of the persons is a Med student.

*

Is it indeed the case that romantic relationships do not survive the demands placed on the Med student (that romantic relationships are too distracting for this en devour)?

Is being in a Romantic relationship incompatible with the demands of Medical school (as far as Time and emotional focus & emotional energy)?

Thank you very much,

Joey

  1. Visit the Student Doctor Network Forum. Just Google it. They have message boards full of interns, residents, med. students all going through this.  There is evena Singles board for students. They talk about all of this.

  2. No its not.  YOu can make it in a relationship if it is strong.  Its not like they are goign to Iraq so get real.  You see eachother everyday.  Med people are so freakign up tight and snobbish about this when half of them are s***w around inj med school.

I know one girl that slept around every weekend and drank heavily.  Three of the girls in the class were like this.  The men usually cheated on their wive with uh some after school studying. And there is alot of partying for the first two years.

I mean after seeing these peole act I felt very sorry for their future patients.

Then the second 2 years of rotations sucks because you go to a training hospital and are treated really bad and have to work above 90 hrs in some rotations but you will still see your loved ones.

Its not like being in the military or like you are digging ditches and building homes in construction so come on.

But its alot of work and a job that requires more than 40 hrs a week.  So its up to you if you want this.
