So I changed my light bulbs around my house to more earth friendly ones, so now what do I do with the ones that I remove...I feel silly throwing them away since they still work any suggestions aside from having in a box under my kitchen sink?

  1. Save them.  After they become illegal the black market in light bulbs will drive the price up.

You would make a good profit on these bulbs if you can hold on to them for a few years.

  2. You could post them to your local freecycle group. check out www.freecycle.org

Hopefully they will be taken and the person will come to your house, porch, work, or curbside to pick up - makes it easy!

You MUST recycle your burned out fluorescent bulbs. Contact your local trash authority for special drop off places. DO NOT put these in trash or recycling bins. All fluorescent bulbs must be recycled- long straight ones like they use in schools (even the green-tipped ones), U-shaped ones, and the new compact fluorescent ones.  They contain mercury vapor that can harm you and the environment if broken.

If you accidentally break a fluorescent bulb there are certain things you must do to protect yourself and others:

    1. Ventilate the area. Open a window or outside door.

    2. Evacuate the spill area for 15 minutes.

    3. On returning to the room, use a broom to clean up the broken bulb. Do not use a vacuum, which may redistribute fine particles around the room.

    4. The broken pieces should be placed in a bag in the trash. They are not hazardous waste.

    5. If you notice a white powder, this is phosphorous. It can be placed in the trash with the broken pieces.

  3. Give it to charity,

Keep it u might need it once,

Give 2 someone who really needs it,

Ask anyone if they need it...

So many other things u can do

  4. Save them as they work better for outside lighting and also when it gets really cold.

I also did the CFL lights and am very happy. Less on my bill.

  5. Give them to a charitable organization such as a church or a shelter. They will go through them pretty quickly.

  6. keep them......u might need in some urgency
