Lightbugs!!!!?

why do light bugs light up? whats thier purpose? also how do they do it... chemicals? theyre cool here and also are there only green ones? or other colors

They light up to attract mates at night, similar to other animals who display. The light made is from chemicals inside the light bug resulting in bioluminescence. Unfortunately, the only light bugs I've seen are yellow-lighted at night.
