Lighting Controller?

Question

If i buy a 24 channel lighting controller how do you hook up the lights to the controller? Directly to it or through another box? Please be detailed!

I'm assuming you are talking about a lighting controller for a stage or other public place.

There are three components to any stage type lighting system:

lights

dimmers

controller or lighting console

The dimmers are controlled by the lighting controller.  The dimmers actually dim the lights.  The lights are wired to the dimmers using 120 vac wiring.  The dimmers are connected to the controller using a low voltage control cable.

Also, make sure you consult an electrician before you do any of your own wiring in a public building.  It may even be illegal where you live to do the wiring on your own.
