Question:

Lily ingestion in cats

I just posted tonight under what could be wrong with my little girl. As I was surfing the web I read an article on how toxic lilies can be for cats.

I have a yard full of them, all types!!!! I have had cats for years and they even sleep among the lilies. My little girl has been having problems for two weeks, and has had all kinds of tests which showed up a urinary tract infection with blood in urine. Please tell me it isn't possible that she ingested a lily leaf, wouldn't she be dead by now of kidney failure and wouldn't something have showed up in the blood work and urinalysis? I am sick just thinking about it. She has just finished her Baytril medication and is still eating, but not as much. I heard that kidney failure would be quick with lily ingestion, but it has been over 2 weeks and she is still alive, just not up to par as she was before. If anyone knows about this please let me know. Thank you

  1. Oh, please take her to the vet, NOW! She might have the urinary tract disease. If you let it go on for this long, take her to the vet now! It is very possible she ate a lily leaf, but is holding out and trying not to show too much pain. This could be life-threatening!

  2. Here is a very comprehensive list of toxic plants to pets!

Avocaodes, Alfalfa are toxic, and are also common ingredients in Natural, Holistic, and Organic cat foods, also Potoates are common ingredient inthese products, but cat's cannot digest the starch that are found in potatoes.

  3. ur cat is sick trust me she will die with lillys

  4. Hi!

Lily toxicity is fatal and since your cat is recovering from her urinary infection, I doubt it has anything to do with Lily Ingestion. However, to prevent any future ingestion, it is wise to either remove your Lily plants from your garden or restrict your cats from going into your garden and possibly ingesting your Lily plants.
