Question:

Liquid & Powder for fake nails...dangerous?

My mom works as a nail technician. > ____ <

At night I got a call from her saying the liquid at the shop

went in her eye, and now it's blood red.

Her vision is blurry sometimes she can see clearly.

She lives like 2 hours from me and I'm worried to death.

She wouldn't get herself to the hospital... cause of

bills, etc.

I'm wondering if it's just a short period effect...

or she would go blind?

  1. There are some things that you can skip or eliminate because of bills. Your eyes and health shouldn't be one of them. A visual impairment may cause her to lose her job and therefore become a bigger problem for the bills. SHE REALLY NEEDS TO SEE A DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY. No one here can see her eyes and know to what degree she has damaged them. The longer she waits may potentially cause irreversible damage. A lot of time gets wasted here looking for the quick fix that you may never get, and she suffers the consequences.

  2. Bloodshot (Red) eyes appear red because the vessels in the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become enlarged and irritated. I am not familiar with the chemical ingredients of nail liquid/powder. If the liquid/powder is acidic, the haze on the cornea often clears with a good chance of recovery. However, if they are alkaline, it may cause permanent damage to the cornea. Your mom could try to treat her red eyes by following these remedies:

1.Splash cold water over closed eyes to provide relief for red eyes

2.Apply a cold compress (ice-pack wrapped in a towel) to the eyes

3.Increase your intake of Vitamin A and B supplements

    4.Wear preservative-free contact lenses

5.Wear protective goggles when doing tasks that may produce airborne particles or dust.

If the eye redness and blurry vision persist after doing the above remedies. It indicates that professional medical treatment is needed.

If the same accident happens in the future, your mom should follow these eye emergency procedures:

    1. Flush with cool tap water immediately. Turn the person's head so the injured eye is down and to the side. Holding the eyelid open, allow running water from the faucet to flush the eye for 15 minutes.

       .

    2. If the person is wearing contact lenses and the lenses did not flush out from the running water, have the person try to remove the contacts AFTER the flushing procedure.

    3. If the person continue to experience eye pain or discomfort after step 1. Continue to flush the eye with clean water or saline and seek urgent medical attention immediately.
