Living in Liberia?

Anyone has RECENT information on conditions of expatriate living in Liberia: i.e.: accommodation available and cost; house help and cost; purchase of electric appliances, furniture, prescription drugs, etc.

Also social network: meeting places, sporting activities, etc.

Thanks for the help.

  1. Liberia does not allow non-Liberians to buy property.  I do know that much.  That may be changing.  You also cannot become a Liberian citizen unless you are black.  Non-citizens can rent property, however.

Much of their social infastructure is non-existant.  They did just come off of a 14 year long civil war.  The soccer stadium was used to house refugees.

I'm sure much has improved since we were there.  We stayed mainly near the US embassy neighborhood.  Nice Lebanese restaurant nearby.

  2. Try contacting the UNDP.  They appear to be open to advising about expatriate living conditions.  My parents were born there.   Although things are improving slowly, there have been reports of attacks on international workers. It was once a beautiful peaceful country, but the civil war has appeared to weaken the values of some of the younger citizens.
