London Help?

Hi all,

If any of you live in London or just know London really well I hope you can help.

I am visiting London with my Mum on Thursday 17th July. We're getting there at about 12:15 midday and we're seeing a show at 3:00. What I was hoping to do was take my Mum to the Natural History Museum as I discovered she's never been. What I was wondering is this - will we have enough time to get from St Pancras to the museum and then to the Ambassadors Theater (to see STOMP) for about 2:30 when I think we need to start going in to get seated? How long will it take and is it worth getting a tube day ticket, (bit scared as I've never been on the tubes on my own and my Mum's relying on me), and is it easy to navigate?

Also, anywhere good to eat afterwards in Covent Garden which is, I believe, pretty much where the Ambassadors Theater is?

Hope you can help.

Thanks in advance :0)

  1. It's quite confusing the first time. There's usually London Underground staff you can ask directions for or use the maps they have on the walls.

  2. Check out the Transport for London (TfL) Website for your Travel Query & VisitLondon.com as to your good Eating Places Query ! I hope that this helps you !

  3. I think the more appropriate question you need to ask us is whether or not you are likely to survive being knifed.

  4. It will take about half an hour to get from St Pancras to South Kensington (where the Natural History Museum is)  Take the Piccadilly Line.  That takes you up to quarter to 1.  It takes about 10 mins to walk to the door of the museum from the tube station which takes you to 5 to 1.  It takes about 10 minutes (again on the Piccadilly Line) to get from South Kensington to Leicester Square and about 7/8 minutes walk from there to the theatre.  Add that to the 10 mins to get to your tube from the museum so you'd need to leave the museum about 2pm to be on the safe side so it does give you a full hour at the museum - very doable.

  5. Good eatery in Covent Garden is Maxwells......they are in the road leading down to the market from the tube station, left hand side...

  6. I don't live in London but have visited a few times.

I think you are going to be a bit pushed for time to see the museum and then get to the show. It can be done but you won't get much time at the museum. The Tube is a bit scary but you can get around more easily by asking staff and Londoners for help.

I can't recommend anywhere in Covent Garden to eat but I have seen many menus and I can tell you that they take advantage of it being a tourist venue. They are over-priced.

  7. If your saying you arrive at 12.15 and need to be at the theatre at 2.30 then the answer is no, you have no where near enough time. The tube is efficient, but it takes time to get from one place to the next, often with a few changes involved.

  8. Use the cabs (black taxi's) they are the quickest way 10 mins to museum & then 10 mins to your show. Bit pricey though should cost around 20 quid. There are loads of nice places to eat in Covent Garden, Enjoy!
