Looking at Mikhail Gorbachev's policies changed the Soviet Union, would you consider him a patriot, or in a sense, a subversive? Please explain a little.

Thanx, I work at a retirement resort and some of the ex vet's like to talk about the past =)

  1. Yes he was a patriot as was Boris Yeltsin. Putin and Medvedev are  patriots too.

Gorbachev tried to reform Communism. Boris Yeltsin put an end to the Communism and all Russian people supported him in that. Boris Yeltsin knew very well Putin and his liberal views and knew he was against corruption. Putin's friend was very famous governor of Saint Petersburg city who had very liberal views either. That is why Yeltsin chose Putin as the PM.

The Gorbachev's mistake was he gave long speeches but nothing changed. But still he was and is a patriot now.

  2. I'm not an expert, but I would consider him a reformer. By the time the mid '80s rolled around, the Soviet Union knew that things needed to change. I guess I could consider Gorbachev a patriot. He wanted what was best for his country. He tried to bring democracy and more liberal policies to a very suppressed nation. In the end, it wasn't enough and the Soviet Union collapsed.
