Looking for advice on reclusive cat.

I have a female cat, 10 yrs old, who I've had since she was 6 mths old. She was rescued. She seemed like a very sociable cat at the shelter but from the minute we brought her home she has hidden under the bed - yes for 10 yrs. She only comes out to eat and use the litter box. We have never been able to pick her up or pet her, she runs from us. We have never hurt her or anything. We had another cat, a 1 yr old male, when we brought her home but we introduced slowly and they've been best buds every since, that isn't issue. I think we have given her a good life and have gotten nothing in return, except bills. I'm thinking about putting her down but am morally conflicted at the same time. She could live another 8 yrs like this and frankly, it's a lot of money for no return. Wondering if anyone has dealt with this or has any opinions or advice! Thanks

  1. I would definitley not put her down!!! I would maybe try shutting all the doors so she can't escape into a bedroom, etc. and place her in the living room with you, and make her be around you for awhile. I honestly wouldn't give up on her.....have you tried playing with her, etc...????

  2. Sorry but she is just one of those cats who does not respond to human affections. She is very unlikely to change now.

DON'T even think of having her put to sleep, she is healthy and probably happy.

If you don't want to keep her then get in touch with a cat welfare trust as ask them to take her on. She may be happier living on a farm or small holding.
