Looking for group volunteer work

Question

I'm the vice president of my high schools key club and i need to find some volunteer/charity work in maryland. preferably somewhere around baltimore county. my school has a very large body of students (about 200) available to participate in the event so don't worry about not having enough people. any ideas would be helpful.

Have you thought of checking out the closest craigslist to you? There's a whole section for volunteers.

Check around for the next large, e.g. over 5000, gathering in your area. If the organizer is charitable, ask how 200 people could help. If not, contact a charity and ask what sort of fund raiser they could do at that event if they had 200 warm bodies. Could they do valet parking for everyone or golf cart shuttles for the elderly or infirm? Could you be mini-concierges for each area of the venue--getting drinks, snacks, hunting down hot spots for cell phones or wi-fi?

Is there a library that needs to move?  A book brigade can be the best way to do that, taking each book hand-to-hand so it gets placed in order?

What about river or a deserted lot clean up?  You could contact an environmental or community group and offer to be the workers for a much bigger project than they've ever considered.
