Question:

Looking to buy a Bread maker?

I am looking to buy a bread maker, but am wondering if it's an expensive way of doing it? I would love to have fresh bread, but the just add water and yeast mixers seem really expensive. I am looking at them on line and all they tell me is that it's 1.5 kg. Am I to assume that it will make only 1 loaf for $7.00? If I were to buy my own flour and other ingredients would it work out cheaper than buying ready made instore?

  1. I haven't made bread for a while (been too slack) but 1.5kg will make maybe 3 loaves.

Also you can buy a 10kg bag of bread mix with the yeast and that is cheaper per kilo.

I think when I was making bread doing it yourself works out to half price or better.

The only down sides are being too lazy to make it and slicing it tidily so if will fit in the toaster, although an electric knife makes it easier than an ordinary bread knife.

  2. It depends how often you would use the machine - on average, we have fresh bread every 4 or 5 days. Yes, they make one loaf of bread at a time from approximately 3 cups of flour but the cost is more like 99 cents per loaf by my estimates. If you bake one or 2 loaves and then stash the machine in the cabinet, don't buy one.

I can let the machine bake the bread or i can let the machine do all the kneading and then I form the dough into the desired shape and bake it in my oven,
