Question:

Losing weight... Exercise?

So I have already lost 5 lbs just because I quit snacking and I started eating healthy. Writing down what I ate helped.

The most exercise I do is walking 1/4 mile from the parking deck to school then around school to my different classes. Then that 1/4 mile back to my car. It is too hot right now where I live to go walk outside. Would just doing sit ups and push ups everyday help me lose more weight and tone up a bit?

Here is a good reason why you should continue to exercise and build muscles.

The muscle cells are about 8 times more metabolically demanding than fat cells. This means that larger the percentage of muscle you have in your body, the faster your metabolic rate becomes. This may explain why some people can’t gain weight fast.

Even if you’re resting, you body burns 8 times more calories than normal. Therefore having more muscle mass can helps you to burn more fat and calories.

Weight training enhances muscle mass and density, and it strengthens bone mass.

Continue to maintain a healthy body weight after losing weight. Repeated weight loss and followed by weight gain is called the “yo-yo” effect or also known as weight cycling. This is usually the result of quick-fix diets and weight-loss gimmicks.

The only way to maintain BMI in healthy range is the commitment in lifelong changes in eating and exercise habits.

You do not have to exercise vigorously to reap health benefits. You can still stay healthy if you do moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. The 30 minutes can be broken down into 10 min segment throughout the day.
