Hi, im really concerned that my 4 month old siberian husky is having trouble breathing. He has never made these snorting noises before and the first occurance happened late at night. it woke me up and then i took him downstairs to get some water. He had to stop half way and lay down because of the loud snorting noise. Then he had to go outside, i followed him outside and he started to snort again. Im a first time pet owner so i don't know what it is. what could be it be and is it something i should be worried about?

  1. my dog does this too

    he will randomly start snorting

    but then he stops

my dog is 9 and hes done it all his life

i dont know what it is

but i dont think you need to worry about it that much!

  2. some dogs make a snorting noise due to having whats called a long soft palate. its a flap of skin in the back of their throat which can sometimes grow a bit longer than normal and make them snort when in a deep sleep or if they get  really excited. if it persists speak to your vet there are minor surgery which can be done to fix it. i wouldn't be overly worried it is a very common thing.

  3. I was scared at first, but don't worry. Dogs at 4 months are sensitive to pollen or dust, and it could be allergies or a cold. If he continues to snort, don't take him out too often; Or, go to a vet to figure out the reason, and you won't feel scared.
