Low Disk Space Help?

Weell I have a really crappy old computer thats all slow and stuff.. and its got really low disk space, even though it really doesnt have all that much on it. I have freed as much space as possible, but it's still really low.

Is there anyway that I can get more disk space?

  1. Clear temporay files from IE or other browsers. Goto login account's temp directory and clear the files. Uninstall all unwanted Applications.Do defrag after taking backup of all your important data.( this will also speed up the disk access time.)

  2. Google and download CCleaner, uninstall old programs, and search for some videos on youtube that give tutorials on how to improve computer speed (there's plenty out there).

  3. 1. Remove Unwanted Programs

    Click on the Start menu then Control Panel. Switch to Classic View if you are in Category view, and double-click Add or Remove Programs. Look for programs that you don't use anymore, click to select them and then click the Remove button to uninstall them.

    2. Run Disk Cleanup

    The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk by searching your disk for files that you can safely delete. You can choose to delete some or all of the files. Use Disk Cleanup to perform any of the following tasks to free up space on your hard disk:

    • Remove temporary Internet files.

    • Remove downloaded program files. For example, ActiveX controls and Java applets that are downloaded from the Internet.

    • Empty the Recycle Bin.

    • Remove Windows temporary files.

    • Remove optional Windows components that you are not using.

    • Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

    You can start Disk Cleanup, by doing any of the following: • Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type cleanmgr, and then click OK.

    • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

    3. Run Disk Defragmentation

    Start - Programs - Accessories - system tools- disk defragmentation.

    4. Clear Temporary files

    Start- Search- *.tmp(search hidden files and folders). Delete all these files.

  4. Turn of System Recovery, have a disk cleanup. Delete unneeded files.  

  5. clean up this dirve, or copy sum files in external hard disc or flash disc after that deleted files.

  6. clarification req. how much disk space u have?

    better atleast 1gb free space in c:

    delete all temp files and type prefetch it will display prefetched application select all delete.

    Uninstall all unwanted application and check what are all processes are running using task manager.

    if ur process is more than 50% check which processes is using.

    Than check the mem usage >

    increase the virtual mem size.

    then customize the visual effects to reduce the mem usage.

    then put Disk fragmentation & disk cleanup.

    i think this is enough for increase the speed of a old computer, if the system without virus.


  7. uninstall application that you haven't been using,. clear temporary files, get an external disk and just copy all the files you have to it

  8. use  DISK CLEAN UP   thats  the  inbuilt    utility  in  ur  pc  it  will   free  up  space    and  second  one  

    DELETE TEMPORARY FILES from all  TEMP FOLDER under windows folder   u  will  surely   get  much  space
