Low Key in Cancun?

My family and I are going to Cancun soon, we are planning on doing it pretty low-key. We want to spend a day shopping, flee market type stuff (we can go to a mall here, right?) We will be staying at Riu Palace las Americas. Where is the closest flee market type shopping? How much for the cab ride? I also want to find some good Anjao Tequila to bring home, where might I find that?

  1. Riu Palace is across the street from a mall and less than 5 minute walk to a large flea market.  When you leave the airport, there will be people standing by the doors that will hand you free travel/visitors info.  Included in that will be a map that shows where the flea markets are, there are several to choose from.  Be careful with taking a cab - ask BEFORE you get in how much it will cost.  Or better yet, ask someone at the hotel's concierge desk to tell you how much the cab ride will cost.  In my experience, cab drivers will include their own tip when quoting you a price.  And don't be surprised if it costs you a different fare coming back than it was going.  Most places you will want to go should cost you less than $20.

  2. Going low key is great!! Flea markets are downtown and taxi cabs are lot's cheaper their than here, duty free beverages is the best place to buy Tequila - it has beautiful beaches, be safe, do not carry cash, try money orders instead.................
