  1. In the mid 1990's I got $25 for a 1/2 hour private lesson. The going rate many places was $27.50 to $30 per 1/2 hour lesson.  My instructor charges $100 an hour.

To answer your question is it to much to pay. Without knowing who the "Professional" you are talking about is, and what his experience level is it is difficult to say.  A lot depends on what you consider "a Professional". If you are talking about someone that has less than 10 years of realistic training and is at least mid twenties or older, I'd say it is not worth it.

  2. No. That was a going rate more than 20 years ago.

  3. My instructor doesn't charge me, but charges another $100 a month. This is for four two hour classes.

So you're going to have a variable for price range depending on the individual and their circumstances.

The only thing I would be wary of, is if they try and charge some $200 an hour.

  4. If he is charging 50$ an hour, I would check his credentials.

The ___cheapest___ I've seen in a long time is $75.
