MCR labels themselves as 'Metal'?

I take that as a slap to the face. Multiple times. How the h**l do they actually have over one million myspace fans? I just checked Metallica and they only have 900 thousand some.

Nah, you have to take it from the source. I wouldn't be surprised if they classified themselve as prog christian fusion or comedy rap ensemble.

No need to feel offended on behalf of the genre. I'm sure the collective metal isn't losing any sleep.

not hatin on MCR but i really really dont describe them as a Metal band! Gerad just sings but he isnt like other bands like screaming YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! theyre good tho!

I love mcr but this is a sad excuse for trying to get more people to listen to there music. The black parade was definitly not metal. They are in a genre by them selfs I believe, Thats not good or bad. There songs on that cd dont really follow one line, some are sad, some with religion, some sad, Just a mix of songs. But I do like  MY FAMOUS LAST WORDS and THE SHARPEST LIVES

I don't find it particularly insulting to the genre. I don't even know the criteria for differentiating between hard rock and metal.

However, this may have been inspired by an article in Total Guitar at the release of The Black Parade, where it says something like

"The MCR boys have grown up. They're not emo, or screamo anymore. The Black Parade is, simply put, metal."

Then they went on to compare MCR to Pink Floyd, and Matt Bellamy from Muse to Jimi Hendrix.
