MEXiCANS AND HORSES???

Question

HOW SIMILAR IS OUR STYLE OF RIDING HORSES AND HANDLING THEM COMPARED TO AMERICAN RIDERS???

[keep in mind this is the style MY town in mexico uses..... other towns in Mexico may differ]

In my town in Mexico we do loud kissing sounds to get the horse to sprint.

We use rags on the horses back instead of a saddle.

When we sprint while on the horse we hold on to the hair since there is no saddle to hold on to.

we never use spurs.

do you still wear loincloths and feather headdresses?funny i am from spanish ancestory and i havent ever seen a mexicali or mexican not ride without a saddle with a big horn and spurs on either side of the river.native tribes use the mane hair to control their horse but usually use a leather bareback cloth

i thought the english ride english and americans ride western but the spaniards use a saddle that is halfway between.

ps my dad used a razer strop but i grew up ok

the spanish style is much more,,hmm.. country style. you know? american is more like english saddle fancy pants stuff. i agree, spurs are not the way to go, it's like using a wooden spoon to beat kids, it's abuse.

lito has already posted this question in the horse section... (he has edited it a bit) he was making a point about how much better mexicans are!!!!

i have nothing against Mexicans .... but... the way the Mexicans used to race here is tieing a rope around their legs and the horses belly to hold them on.....(stupid).... they finally made a law against it because to many of them died..... oh ya and they also held onto their manes to keep them aboard!!!

spurs are not abusive if you know how to use and not use them.....and some kids need a little butt whopping every once in awhile...thats whats wrong with them these days...

Well, of course saddles are used in the US. The jockeys here put the stirrups on the ball of the foot and stand in the irons, crouched low over the horse's back. The jockeys will often grab some mane along with the reins to come out of the gate but after that they don't hold onto the horse and the saddle is too small to hold onto. Jockeys here make kissing sounds and use other vocal sounds to encourage the horses. Jockeys here don't use spurs - the ankle position is so high they would be applying the spur to the saddle cloth. Jockeys in the US do use whips but not excessively since there are rules about their use and often the jockeys just swing it alongside the horse's head and "show" it to the horse to get him to quicken.
