I would like to buy one one these bikes: Ducati 999 or the Ducati 848 or maybe a bmw k1200r. I'm 6'2 . Might I be too tall for these bikes? Do you think I might have a problem with my legs, knees?? I'm going to go try them on anyway. When is someone considered too tall for a sportbike??

  1. I'm about your height, and my brother is about 6'4''. Neither of us have had any problems with any reasonable bike (ie, not a 250)

  2. i know a guy who is 6'7'' and he has a gsxr750.  he isnt too tall for that i dont think u could be too tall for any bike either.  lol

  3. Not sure about the 999 or 848, but I'm 6'3 and had a 916 a few years back which I rode to the Bol when it was at Paul Ricard ( From Leicestershire ) I have also had a Kawasaki ZXR750L1 & a ZX7R both of which I have toured Europe on without problems, I currently ride a Yamaha 2002/3 YZFR1 which is as comfortable as anything else I've had, so I would say if you like it and it feels OK go for it.

  4. What?!

lol ur funny!nobody can be too tall for a sportsbike!maybe you can ask for a specific height of the bike or ask the tool dude to adjust the seat!

im 5'2,u might think im small, but im REALLY young.in a way.

    but anyways,adjusting the seat really works!haha =;D

  5. It's more a matter of comfort than being "Considered too tall". And the Italian bikes have a fairly extreme sitting positions also. A sportsbike is fairly cramped, but a Ducati, forces your legs into a racing crouch as well.

On the plus side the Ducati 848 has a better power to weight ratio than the Ducati 1098 superbikes. On the negative side the 848 has a better power to weight ratio than the Ducati 1098 superbike.

Maybe you should consider the 696? around 80 hp, for the 696. The 696 is a little less extreme than the 848 seating positions. (Footpegs are rather high and that forces your legs up.)

The BMW is rather a more powerful bike than you may be able to handle. It has all sorts of unconventional choices, that seem chosen for maximum weirdness. HEAVY, and the weight is rather high on the frame too. And service costs are higher for the german bikes (yes, higher than the Ducati), and if you drop your BMW 1200 it will be QUITE EXPENSIVE. The BMW has more proprietary services, too.  (dealers are required to service the ASB system, and the other high tech features as well.
