Madrid 2020 Olympics logo perplexes people
The city of Spain, Madrid has recently unveiled its logo for the 2020 Olympic Games bid that it intends to make.
However, the logo has not had the desired effect on the people of Spain as the general impression obtained from the feedback of the reactions of people is one of confusion.
The logo that the city of Madrid has developed includes all the traditional colours of the Olympic Games that are shaped as coloured arches standing side by side. Every arch consists of the ‘M20’ written over it. The letter ‘m’ represents Madrid whereas
the numbers ‘20’ represent the 2020 Olympic Games. The concept behind the arches is that they signify the popular landmark of the city of Madrid, which is the Puerta de Alcala.
Despite the fact that the idea behind the design of the Madrid 2020 Olympic Games is appreciable, the layout of the design has not been up to the mark. The confusion that had been generated in the Spanish public as well as the international media is because
of the fact that the logo appears to read ‘20020’ instead of ‘m20’. This is because the ‘m’ for Madrid begins with the small letter that gives the impression that the first letter is ‘2’.
Alejandro Blanco, who is the bid leader as well as the Spanish Olympic Committee president, expressed himself on the matter of getting the Olympics bid in the following words, “Today is an important day for the future of Spanish sport, for the future of
this country. We want (the Olympics). We can do it. We dream of them, we are in love with them and we need them. We owe it to society, and, above all, to the youth that encourages us.”
The country of Spain has been going through a tough period of economic and financial crisis.
However, according to the leaders of the Olympic 2020 bid for Madrid, the country’s situation will not affect the workings of the organization of the Olympic Games, if anything, the opportunity to host the Games is going to give the troubled country an opportunity
to upgrade itself.
