  1. maitre'd means you will be paying at least $25 per person for your meal.

  2. A Maitre'd is a man and a Hostess is a woman. Their jobs are pretty much the same, greeting patrons at the restaurant, assigning tables, taking reservations, etc.

  3. hostess is a greeter,asigns tables ,esorts you to the table,somtimes helps servers,says goodbye,smiles,looks good,etc.,etc.

the maitre'd can do all of the above ,but the maitre'd invariably is head of that entire restuarant, he would be the last word, even over the chef .

maitre'd in french means "master of the hall","hall master"

thats the person to suck up to ......lol

  4. Not much, really. I guess the biggest difference, if any, would be that a hostess just seats you. A maitre'd also takes on some waiting duties.
