Major iPod Help!!!!?

So the hardrive of my computer has been completely wiped out, and I am devastated. Even my iTunes library and Limewire library is completely kaput. So i downloaded limewire again and will soon re-install iTunes. My question is, if i connect my ipod to the computer, will the songs and videos on my ipod be erased? Is there some way where all the songs and vids on my ipod can be uploaded from my ipod into my hellish computer?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for sounding so frantic lol.

  1. If you plug it in again itunes should read the ipod and convert it on to itunes...

  2. No. I've had to do this before. When you put in your iPod, a windows box will come up and ask you to erase your library to put the songs on your iPod from your library. Say no, and import your songs onto the library.

  3. Make sure you have the "Enable disk use" box checked in itunes under your ipod device.

    Go here http://www.osxfaq.com/dailytips/02-2005/... for instructions

Basically you have to open terminal (on a pc), type in the code they give you to show hidden files.

Open your ipod folder on the desktop and the music folder will show up..voila!

Drag your files back onto your computer. (note: the file names will be odd (ex HY8YB), but when you import them into itunes, the information will be intact.

Type in the magic code back into terminal and hide hidden files.

This will only work for DRM free songs though. So you are set.

  4. it will want to only transfer over the purchased songs and then erase and resync it. You can use a program, i think its call iDump, that will transfer your songs from the ipod to your computer
