Are you asking what it means?  Socrates believes we must know ourselves before we can know others.  How can we believe the things we see and hear are correct, if we don't know how we interpret these things?  How can you know why another person does something before you know why you act the way you do?  

    Knowing oneself is a question of learning about and deciphering our behavior, morals, and even our own thought.  This idea leads to many different theories in philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
