It looks like ESPN is doing trying to figure out the best fightere from each state - being from Mass I have to assume these are the top two.....and its seems an interesting question as pick between these two sort of indicates how you rank fighters in general.

  1. this kind of reminds me of the computer simulated match on the latest rocky movie! If you break the movie down. rocky is what 60 in the movie? Fighting a much younger opponent. But if we were to have each other fighting in there primes-rocky would have smoked him. I think the smarts and quickness of marciano would have beet out hagler.

  2. older folks 60 and up marciano would be their popular guy guys our age 30-40 somthing crowd hagler would be more popular in their eyes you also had other popular fighters from ma sandy sadler paul pender jack sharkey joey demarco john l sullivan and there is more look up fighters from boston ma.in my own opinion marciano has gotten the most attention but i was a hagler fan

  3. I agree with John t, it all depends on the age of those who are interviewed, pound for pund hagler is usually ranked higher (i know many people will thumb me down because they do not know the meaning of pound for pound) anyway pound for pound hagler is rated higher but histroically speaking marciano's undefeated record has a higher significance.

  4. That is an interesting one. Marciano never lost, of course, but he competed at something like 188 pounds and would have his hands full with many of the top fighters from recent years who were 210 and above. I think Foreman andTyson, for example, would have physically dominated him.

Hagler ranks as one of the all-time great middleweights, with only the Leonard fight hurting his legacy. And that was an odd fight, where Leonard kept his distance.

I guess I'd rank Hagler higher pound-per-pound, but I have a feeling Marciano will win because he was the only undefeated heavyweight champion.

  5. ESPN is going to have a problem with this one.  Let's just say there are two top ones from Mass.  You can't pick from these two.  The vote would be too close.

  6. Marciano - retired undefeated

  7. If you are talking pound for pound this would be a real tough one, i would rank both of these fighters as top pound for pound fighters in their respective divisions. Marciano was a small Heavyweight who could mix it with anyone they put in with him and because of his size and the fact he ruled the division for so long you would have to rate him very highly on the alltime p4p list, Hagler was also a beast and fought and beat people in a division that i would say was the toughest period of time to be in any division, he was the ruler at Middle when Hearns, Leonard, Duran and co were fighting there and for this reason i would rate him slightly higher than the rock, due to the competition he fought.
