Mario kart wii question please help?

i need help with the tim trials when you first get the game are you supposed to have a bunch of time trials??????????????????????????????????...

You start with half of the cups but as you unlock new ones by beating certain cups in 1P mode you will be able in all 8 cups.

You should be able to do the time trials to any of the levels you have unlocked and opened. In order to open more than just the starting levels, you need to compete in, and come in the top three for the Cups. Once you do that, it should unlock the other levels, as well as their time trials.
