Martin Jol says goodbye to Ajax
The former Dutch midfielder Martin Jol has resigned from the post of Manager of the Dutch football club Ajax. It is also reported that Martin Jol has resigned due to the bad performance of Ajax in the Champions League.
Currently the Dutch football club is going through a bad phase as it has not been able to display satisfying results and that is why the team is currently at fourth place in the Dutch Eredivisie. Moreover, its recent draw in the
match against Nijmegen added a bit more worry for Martin Jol. It is also to be noticed that the four times European Championship winner Ajax has also failed to qualify for the next stage of the event.
It is worth mentioning that Martin Jol is now being considered for the manager-ship of the prestigious Newcastle United football club.
According to some recent news reports, the 54 year old Jol is one of the contenders for the new manager post for the Newcastle United Football club as Newcastle’s manager Chris Hughton was recently sacked by the club Martin. Jol
is considered as one of the most impressive European club managers as he has also managed Tottenham Hotspur before joining the Ajax football club in 2009. Under his manager-ship, the Hotspurs performed well and this is vivid proof of Martin’s impressive capabilities.
Under his management, Ajax performed brilliantly last season but this season came out to be not so lucky for Jol.
In a very recent press conference, the former Dutch footballer expressed his thoughts to the media in a state of despair. Martin said that he in a great stress as it is very hard to leave such a wonderful football club of Europe
like Ajax. He continued and said that the decision of his retirement from the club is very difficult from him but he has to say good bye to his beloved football club.
While talking about the performance of the team, Jol said that the performance of the team was pretty brilliant in the last season but this year has started a bit differently. He continued that he has just realized that the fans
of Ajax were expecting the same results from the team like that of last year and unfortunately the team has not been able to perform according to the expectations of the fans.
It is to be noted that the media has criticized the performance of Ajax very bluntly and Martin seemed unhappy with this. While talking about the media’s criticism and their negative remarks over the performance of Ajax, Jol said
that the reports had created a lot of trouble for the team. He continued that the players took the criticism of the media very seriously, so much so that they it had affected their motivation.
Ajax is now going to compete against AC Milan. Martin said that he has taken the decision of retiring before Ajax goes up against AC Milan but hopes that the team will play a good game against the Italian team. He added that he
wants to see the Ajax team as a winning team and all of his best wishes are with the club.
The Director of the Ajax football club, Rik van den Boog has also expressed his concerns about the retirement of Martin Jol from the team. Boog said that Jol is a great manager and the decision of his resignation from the club
has saddened him.
