  1. My son is in training for MA and like the classes before him, many are going to Bahrain, Guam, Bangor WA and Kingsbay GA. The 2 statesides are both Submarine bases and are for personnell w/clearances to guard Nuclear Weapons, a job previously held by Marines. I think it is the Marines the MAs are replacing that are going to Iraq.

  2. Although MA (Master at Arms) have previously been a shore and ship-based job, that is expanding based on security needs.

    To answer your questions:

    1. Every job in the military is dangerous (in my opinion) because you need to keep a clear head and know what you are doing at all times - in any enviornment.

    2. Chances of going to Iraq? That is based on job availabilities and the needs of the Navy when she completes school. Finishing top in her class gives her more options so remind her to do well and stay focused on his/her studies. If Iraq/Afghanistan or Africa is on the horizon for them after school, training and preparation is thorough and people there who have served a tour or maybe two already that can take him/her "under thier wing."

    3. MA's, based on location, travel in vehicles best suited for that area - A Hummer may be that course in the desert - but there is also the chance of being assigned to a base there and not going anywhere (on patrol, etc.)

    4. MA School is not difficult - and parties and substandard behaviour will not be tolerated - there are too many people who want to join and can follow the rules - so sometimes it only takes one strike and they are out of that job field. Anyone joining who has a prior drug-related offense, for example, can not be in the MA program.

    Hope this helps!

  3. MAA's are almost exclusively on bases and ships doing police work. The training is just like that of a civilian police force. You do your training at Lackland AFB.

  4. My daughter is an MA and she stands security and does patrols. She is well trained and loves her job.She is stationed in Guam right now and was in Italy for 4 yrs before that. Yes she can be shipped to Iraq, but she is ready for it. She says its not scary as it was last year. Good luck.

She was on a ship the 1st 4 yrs now on land. She said school was not hard.
