Master in religious studies!!?

I am applying for the masters of religious studies at Cal State Long Beach. the essay question was why would you want to apply for the masters of religious studies and I had some ideas in mind but I would love to know what kind of answers people out there might have in mind too and what kind of answers aremore effective in the minds of admission officers. please help me if you have ever studied in this field or know about the type of successful essays for masters. thx

So you can help the spreading of pseudo-science that is being taught in some schools, and allow people to realize that there are other choices out there, between the "big 3" J/I/C religions.

That would depend on your motivation.  When I took up Religious Studies I felt a whole new world opening up before me, a key to understanding peoples from the point of view of their religious expressions.  I saw the course as a way to finally attaining world peace and a deeper understanding at cultural differences.  Religiosity is one of the hallmarks of the human spirit. While all our other previous definitions of man have one by one fallen on the wayside, the idea of man as a religious being is still accepted.  Religion is not atavistic, neither is it a non-science.  Religious Studies is a method of probing into a valid human phenomenon.  The principles you'll encounter here will not only help you understand the past but most importantly to generate insights into the present.  All this presuming that it is taken from the right perspective.
