  1. Add the two equations together to get, 8X = 16 which implies x = 2

    Then, substitute that into one of the equations to find y.

    2 - Y = 4 which implies Y = -2.

    Therefore, X = 2, and Y = -2. You can substitiute those numbers back in to double check.

  2. you can solve them as a addition problem. If you add the X's and the Y's, and the constants (what's after the equal sign), you get the equation:

    8x = 16

    I'm assuming you know how to get x from this equation.

  3. Simultaneous equations. Basically, you are given two equations which are both true, and you have to find out what x and y are.

    The second equation tells you that x = 4 + y

    So since you know x = 4 + y, you can replace the x in the first equation with '4 + y'.

    So you have 7(4 + y) = 12.

    You multiply out the brackets and find what y equals.

    Then once you have found what y equals, you can put it back into the equation x = 4 + y to find what x equals.

    Do some working and if u get stuck ill tell u. But as the say..youll never learn if u dont do it for yourself!

    Good luck

  4. x=4+y
