Quick question:

For consequentialists "an action is right if and only if it maximizes the good".

What does "maximize the good" mean to you?

What is your interpretation of this?

  1. I perceive that it means that there is one primary solution to a problem which provides the most benefit to the most people.

    I disagree with this premise.


  2. Only consequences matter when deciding a action. Maximizing the good means providing the most utility. When looking at an action you must way the utility versus the disutility of the situation.
