How do I know if I'm ovulating or not.. I've had misscarriages but that was years ago & been ttc for a good 5 months now & taking all prenatals & folic & vitex...I keep track of when I'm supposedly ovulating on my calandar...so I think I should have been pregnant by now. I'm not very familuar with the temp. deal, so if anyone has any suggestions or else could explain that would be wonderful. And also if there's any other ways to determine if I'm actually ovulating or not?

  1. The temperature tracking technique is fairly simple.  Get yourself a basal body thermometer from any drugstore.  I think Walmart carries them too.   The digital kind are best.  Each morning after at least 3 consecutive hours of sleep take your temperature.  You need to do this at about the same time each morning before you do anything else.  This means that you can't get up to pee or move around much before taking your temp.  Record each days temp. on graph paper and connect each date with a line so that you can clearly see dips and rises.  During your cycle you will notice your temps fluctuating but mostly hovering around normal waking body temperature.  When you approach mid cycle keep an eye open for a temperature spike of more than .3 degrees and then some fairly high temperatures following.  The day of the spike is the day you ovulated.  Your temps will remain high for the remainder of your cycle and will drop again when your period arrives.  The period of 10-16 high temps. is called your luteal phase.  Luteal phases tend to remain relatively the same each cycle so if you are regular, you will be able to pinpoint ovulation well before it happens.  Chart your temps. like this for the next few months and have s*x on the 3 days prior to suspected ovulation, the day of and the day after.  If you notice more than 16 days of high temps. during your luteal phase, you are most likely pregnant.

That's the jist of the Basal body temp. technique.  I've used it with both my pregnancies and it is very accurate.  Pick up a copy of the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler as it will go into far more detail then I have.  Interpreting your temps. is not always straight forward so this book will help explain things better.  Charting your temps. may also give you some insight into your monthly cycles and perhaps shed some light on why you haven't conceived yet.  IT's worth the read and you will truly feel liberated with the knowledge and information that it provides.  Good luck to you.  Baby dust.

  2. Yes you could try OPKs, but if you go to http://www.fertilityfriend.com they are fabulous; it's a free temperature charting service and they send you daily e-mail tutorials to get you started. I would start there; read up on EWCM to chart that too (it's free, unlike OPKs!) and then maybe add OPKs once you've got your cycles a little better figured out.

Remember that ovulation is 14 days before your NEXT period (more or less) so you're most fertile starting 5 days before that date until 2 days after it. 5 months is an OK time to be TTC. Most couples find it takes 6 months or so to get pregnant. f you find you've been TTC for a year, then you should go to the doctor,s but until then, just BD when you feel like it and have fun !!!!

  3. Use the ovulatin strips. They show a double line when you have a LH surge (you will ovulate with in 48 hours of the surge). That is the best way to tell. I use the answer brand. They are cheap and work well.

  4. Im just gonna give you the whole cabootle....

This is going to be really long and graphic but I got pregnant in one month doing exactly this and I hope it works for you. First, I got a calendar (actually i used the one on my iGOOGLE). Then I wrote down EVERYTHING. I began by writing down the day and time i started my period in June and the exact day i got off my period at the beginning of July. Next, i counted 14 days from the FIRST day of you last period (my period started June 28 so I counted 14 days from that day and got July 12th). This is the day you are SUPPOSED to ovulate. There are certain symptoms involved with ovulating including: mild breakouts and/or cramping, cervical mucus (discharge) that resemble raw egg whites. Also, you can feel your cervix. A high, open, hard cervix means ovulation. You can also buy ovulation kits that will tell you when you are ovulating or most likely to ovulate. Although you have the day that you are "supposed" to ovulate, you should take a couple days before and a couple days after this day to assume fertility in case you are a day or two off with you ovulation. Next... we cant have babies without s*x right. During that week of fertility have s*x every other day to give your man's sperm time to replenish itself. I had s*x every other day throughout the month except for the week before my period to cover all my basis just in case. When you have s*x, make sure NO SALIVA touches you v****a in ANY WAY. Saliva kills sperm. Also, you have to make sure you have plenty of that cervical mucus that is like raw egg whites. A fish cannot swim out of water and this is the sperms "water" that it needs to swim up into the cervix. My problem was the fact that my vaginal canal always seemed to be extremely dry and it is very easy to make s*x more of a chore. I used my vibrator before s*x to make sure i had enough of that cervical mucus and so my v****a was not dry. sometimes i would use it twice before s*x. Make sure to have s*x in a gravity defying position like the missionary position or doggy style so gravity can pull the sperm down where your cervix is. lay on your back with a pillow under your bum and your legs in the air for a few minutes. do not jump up and "clean" the sperm out of you right away. At this point, i used my vibrator again because o****m causes your cervix to open and the contraction will pull sperm into the cervix. Do this every other day and then... just wait. I really hope this helps. It took me 8 months to get pregnant with my daughter and it was a shock to me once i started doing research and realized all the small things i was doing wrong. Now i am 5 weeks pregnant after one month of trying. Baby dust to you and good luck. Hang in there and be patient even though i know its hard.

OH... stressing about TTC just makes everything worse. Just relax and try to understand that everyones body and cycles are different. It takes some wome 12 months to conceive and other 1... it just depends but pay attention to the small things and just live your life.

  5. When you see your cervical mucus turn into a kind of egg white consistency that is a good indicator that you are about to ovulate. You should be able to stretch it between your fingers several inches.
