Mealworms are not sold nationwide now so I cant feed my leopard geckos mealworms anymore. Crickets are way too much work. Superworms are too big for my geckos. Waxworms are my only hope. I know it is bad to feed my geckos waxworms everyday but its my only hope until mealworms are sold again nationwide. Should I feed them waxworms everyday?

  1. you can but he NEEDS crickets too....if they are a pain you should give your beardie to someone who can take care of him properly...they cannot live on worms alone...any worm period!

  2. NO! Wax worms have very little nutritional value and would not benefit your gecko, these are also very high in fat and are equatable to junk food. They can also be very addictive in some individuals. You could try purchasing locusts, or cockroaches (less then 2cm in length). Crickets are ideal because they are very easy to gutload and not much of a problem to care for, same for the mealworms.

A diet that was exclusively made up of wax worms would lead to serious health problems, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and eventually death. You must give your Gecko insects with a better nutritional value then waxworms and that have been sufficiently gutloaded.

  3. They need circkets too!!!

that should be the base of their diet

as eating too many worms their exoskeletons cant digest

    they can die from that

and yes it does suck of the nationwide shortage fo r mealies

but my sources say it should be back up

    by mid july-end of july

  4. you NEED to feed it crickets! it can not live on just worms. ive had leopard geckos before. and i always fed them crickets. its really not that hard. if your not responsible enough to take care of it the right way, give it to someone who will.
