I went to my OB yesterday for 28 week check up and the commented on how big I look (I have known him 16 years so I did not mind) and when he measured it from tummy measured 32cms (should be around 28).

He then commented on my fingers being bloated and asked me if I had done the Glucose Test for Diabetes he ordered yet, which I had done in the morning.

I don't know much about Gestational Diabetes, and am wondering in being large for dates and puffy are symptons. What are other symptons?

  1. i had it with my last and it doesn't run in my family i was never puffy and it isn't a side effect but i think measuring big is that shaky feeling could just be your feeling your sugar levels drop not necessary meaning you have diabetes it does go away after the baby's born if you have it and its easy to control through diet out of all my kids my last bub was the smallest at 6lb12oz it does suck being on a diet while pregnant but you can still have treats and i felt the best i ever did with my last but hears hoping you don't have it its a real pain other symptoms are feeling thirsty all the time craving sugar when i had it i sort of new because if i drank a sweet drink i had to drink the whole bottle i just couldnt get enough thats all i really had good luck i really hope you dont have it

  2. Yes they are symptoms. You could also get shaky if you go long periods without eating. Some woman have no symptoms at all. The puffy and large for date could also be symptoms of other problems. You need to get the results from the Glucose test back and then go from there. Maybe you are just retaining water and everything else is fine. I would not get ahead of myself. Just wait for the results and if you are positive then follow the doctors orders and you will be ok. I know a lot of woman who have gone through this. They did what they were told and things were fine.

    Good luck to you.

  3. I am 34 weeks and measure 38 weeks, my dates are not wrong and I don't have gestational diabetes, my fingers are swollen and puffy. Your Ob is being cautious, which is a good thing. The main info I remember about GD is if your measurements are out a lot (indicating a larger than average baby), sometimes swelling can be a symptom. The glucose test isn't that bad depending on which one you have to do, whether it is just a fasting blood sugar level or the 1 hour glucose challenge test.  Everything is most likely fine, but if you have GD you should be able to control it with diet.....not insulin.

  4. You should be fine. You've had numerous pregancies so maybe this child is a bit bigger. If it was GD it probably would have shown up in an earlier pregnancy or earlier in this one. Your baby's probably going to be a big one :D
