  1. Hi,

First she has to give good accuracy and quantity, then only think about money.

So many companies are offering good salaries.  She can buy anything if she want to work on longterm basis.

  2. Okay, please don't fall into the answers with answers for your work at home questions!  There is no quick way into MT.  Unless you have a mentor (which 99% don't) you have to go through schooling.  I don't know what school your friend is going to, but I hope it is accredited.  Check the American Healthcare Data Integrity website (www.ahdionline.org).  It used to be the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists.  These schools are the best to choose.

As for salary, if you believe every MT advertisement, I should be rolling in money after being an MT for four years.  Guess what...I'm not. Most MT's start out making 6-8 cents per line.  To briefly explain what that means is that for every 65 characters you type, you just made 8 cents.  An average one page letter would be approximately $2.50 at 8 cents per line.  MT is a production business. The more you type, the more money you make.   Everyone wants to know a yearly salary for MT, but It's not that simple.  No 2 MTs make the same money, because they each will type at different speeds and levels of competency.

I don't want to discourage people from MT training, but I just like people to understand that this isn't a job that anyone can do.  It takes A LOT of skill, knowledge and most of all PATIENCE and understanding.  I hear alot of moms say, I will be an MT because I want to stay home with my kids...LOL.  There are some people that work with kids at home and there are A LOT that pay for daycare so they can work at home.  Just do your research!

  3. Totally agreed Cathy! Everyone thinks they can just become a MT and start working at home and have the easy-life, but that's not at all how it works. It takes excellent schooling and years of experience to be able to work at home.

And even if your friend is going to an *accredited* school where she will be able to get a good job, she certainly can't rely on making the same amount every paycheck. It's incredibly variable.

  4. A couple of years ago I enrolled in stenography to become a court reporter because I heard you could make around $25 per hour and only work part-time.  I found out that I wasn't going to be able to work the hours I wanted so I thought maybe medical transcription was the way to go and I could even work from home.  When I talked to my counselor at the school, he told me that medical transcription payed anywhere from $12-$17 per hour.  I'm not sure if payday is bi-monthly or monthly, but I thought that was pretty good pay.  My counselor also told me that most likely I would not be able to work at home until I've worked in the doctors office for a while.  I don't know what kind of pay your friend is looking to generate, but I actually found something that pays pretty well working from home.  And it can pay more than medical transcription. If she has a good head on her shoulders, she'd do well at this. Both of you can check it out at: http://groundflooraccess.com/freeyoursel...

It may or may not be for you guys.
