Does anyone have a modern Mercedes Benz.

I have noticed, the ignition keys don't have a metal bit to them. Is this correct?

  3. My mum's got an '08 M-Class and yeah, the key is an electronic transmitter type of thing.  It does have a little metal key for valets that slides out from the bottom of the electronic key though.

  5. Yes, the FBS3 ( electronic key ) was first introduced in 1998 for most Benz models and is now used on all Mercedes vehicles.  

    As for one of the earlier posts that mentioned the metal key is a valet key, that is incorrect.  The metal key is a door lock key to be used in case the batteries in the remote die ).  There is still a door lock cylinder in the driver's door for this purpose.
