Mexico or Dominican Republic?

My boyfriend and I are trying to plan our first real vacation. We are torn between the Domincan Republic and Mexico.

We agree that we want an All Inclusive resort. We want something relaxing with a nice beach and lots of activites. We haven't really decided if we will be sightseeing or not so that isn't the biggest issue right now. What we really want is an escape =)

All the pics for both places look wonderful but I know photos can be deceiving. So what is the better relaxing, escape from the ordinary place- Mexico or Dominican Republic?

I'm not going to help much.  If you are looking for an all-inclusive on a sandy beach, they are very, very similar.   This is particularly true if you are looking on the Caribbean side of Mexico.  

If I were you, I'd keep both possibilities in play, and see where you can get the best deal.   Narrowing your choices could eliminate good options, and less expensive options.

Consider working with a travel agent to link you with the resort that matches your lifestyle.

I have been to both areas. Hands down Mexico. Mexico is way more secure than DR.

In Cancun you can travel via the bus and feel safe, All  day or night.

In the DR there is a fence and armed guards at the edge of  most resort area. If you want to leave the resort in the DR, do it only via day trip.No night life other than the resort. Cancun options are so much greater!!
