The ability to distinguish 2 points in the specimen (i.e. see 2 points instead of 1) relates to a problem in using light microscopes termed______________

I was thinking resolution, but resolution isn't a "problem".

Resolution is the correct answer.  It is only a problem when the resolution of your microscope is not great enough to allow you to see the details you require.
